Please join us today for a special tour of the Pre-History Gallery of the National Museum guided by MCG members who are also members of the Museum Volunteers Malaysia. Usually we organise a guided tour of the whole of the National Museum but several of our members have requested that we run seperate in depth tours of the the four seperate Galleries at the Museum. Pre-History, Malay Kingdoms, Colonial Era & Malaysia today. We are starting this month with the Pre-History Gallery and will continue with the other galleries during the course of the year if there is a sufficient level of interest.
The Museum Volunteers Malaysia was set up in October, 2006 to train and provide Volunteer guides for the National Museum. The first group of trainee guides graduated in April, 2007. The training courses include lectures on Malaysian culture, heritage and history, together with guided workshops of the various Museum Galleries. They now have over 100 trained guides.
The present National Museum building was built between 1959 and 1963 on the grounds of the Selangor Museum which was badly damaged during the 2nd World War. It was officially opened to the public on the 31st of August, 1963. The main Museum building was extensively renovated in 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of Independence and now consists of four galleries, Early History, The Malay Kingdoms, the Colonial Era and Malaysia Today.
Please join us for this in depth tour of the Pre-History Gallery of the Museum.
